We’re delighted to announce that The Museum has received £45,800 of support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s, Heritage Emergency Fund to help address the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on heritage. This will help us with emergency actions and starting to think about recovery.
Sir Michael Perry GBE, Chair of the Trustees of the Museum, says:
“This funding made possible by National Lottery players, helps us look after the collections and make them accessible while we look forward to re-opening the doors in July. We’re grateful for the award at this crucial time – it’s a lifeline for sustaining our heritage for the benefit of all.”
Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive of The National Lottery Heritage Fund, says:
“Heritage has an essential role to play in making communities better places to live, supporting economic regeneration and benefiting our personal well-being. All of these things are going to be even more important as we emerge from this current crisis. Thanks to money raised by National Lottery players we are pleased to be able to lend our support to organisations such as the Museum of Royal Worcester during this uncertain time.”
Thanks to National Lottery players, £30 million is raised every week for good causes, including heritage of local and national importance. By playing The National Lottery, people up and down the country are making an amazing contribution to the nationwide-response to combating the impact of COVID-19 on local communities across the UK.
Sophie Heath, Museum Director, says
“We know people are missing visiting us in person, so we’ve been working hard throughout to share our visual riches and stories in new ways. Don’t forget to view our illustrated audio-guide that has been made available online, free of charge until the 30th June! Staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters have been sharing their #FavouriteObject of Worcester porcelain and what it means to them. We’ve also come up with ways for people to connect and get creative themselves! Go to museumofroyalworcester.org/learning/enjoy-the-museum-from-home/ to find hands-on activities, ideal for families to do together to keep entertained and inspired during the restrictions and beyond.”
The Museum needs your support now more than ever if we are to get through these challenging times and keep this magnificent inheritance in the place where it was made. Our 2020 visitor income has been wiped out – it is our busy Spring and Summer that sustains the Museum year-round. The emergency funding makes a vital difference but we need more support to recover.
If you can, please help the Museum at this unprecedented time. Any amount is appreciated.

The Museum is offering a one-year season ticket as a token of our appreciation for donations over £25, which is enough to photograph and preserve online an object of beauty, such as the precious pattern books and artists’ watercolours.
