Percy Lewis came to Hadley’s factory in 1901, then to Royal Worcester in 1905, retired in 1969 through failing eyesight and used to come to the Museum for a cup of tea. Always worked in a cap, a fine singer in his youth and (he said) he could have been a professional. Could forecast everything that happened, after it happened. A tough character: at the age of 80 he jumped onto a beam about 6 feet 6 inches high (Percy was only about 5 foot tall), swung right over the beam and jumped down. A young gilder tried to do the same thing but fell and broke his leg.
