Description | Very large vases each with a deeply sunken panel with a modelled scene illustrating the manufacture of pottery in the 16th century. The whole decorated in Raphaelesque colours. One vase with subjects – The Potter and the Modeller with heads of Luca Della Robbia of Florence and Maestro Giorgio, the other with scenes of The painter and the Furnace with heads of Michelangelo and Raphael. The vases illustrate the poem ‘Keramos, the Potter’ by Longfellow 1877. |
