The Porcelain Podcasts
Year 7 and year 9 students from Nunnery Wood High School have made podcasts using the oral histories (recorded interviews) of former Worcester porcelain factory workers. They initially visited the Museum of Royal Worcester in May 2024 with Oral Historian Julia Letts and History teacher Lauren Thatcher (former Museum volunteer) where they watched former worker Avril Pulley demonstrate flower modelling and explored the collections. Ten enthusiastic pupils took part in the project and eight podcasts have now been made. They feature ten of the interviewees from the original recordings and feature a variety of tales from the 20th-century factory. As well as increasing their confidence in public speaking, this project has allowed the students to contribute towards the preservation of Worcester’s rich porcelain heritage and make the stories of those who shaped the industry more accessible for generations to come.
