The Independence Service was produced in 1790 and consisted of 21 piece set for six, five piece place setting and a coffee set (sixteen pieces). The pattern was first used by Robert Chamberlain, free hand-painted with eagle in cobalt blue highlighted with gold against sprays of blue leaf shapes and Chinese red flowers.
This design was adapted from a pattern made at Royal Worcester some twenty years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when the Eagle was first brought into use as the National Emblem of the United States. Worcester Royal Porcelain Company leased the design in an arrangement with the owner of the original Service and issued a limited number of 500 sets of the Coffee Cups and Saucers which are exact reproductions of the originals produced for, and not obtainable outside of, the United States of America.
