Worcester’s 1751 porcelain manufactory was the first commercially successful English porcelain factory! The combination of excellent design with porcelain which withstood boiling water made ‘Worcester’ a watchword for quality. The pioneering printing technology on porcelain meant beautiful designs reached many more homes.
By 1789 the quality of Worcester Porcelain earned the company the prestigious ‘Royal Warrant‘ as Manufacturers to their Majesties – becoming Royal Worcester Porcelain. In the 19th century the manufactory was a giant in global ceramics, making and transporting huge quantities of fine china across the world from the heart of Worcester.
Today the Museum of Royal Worcester celebrates a mighty heritage of ambitious creativity, innovation, quality and skill and remembers ‘The Porcelain’s’ talented and enterprising people in a world-class setting.
Did you know it costs £638 EACH day to care for and share our collections? Our visitors and shop cover half of our costs. The remainder we seek from the generosity of corporate support, trusts and foundations, gifts in wills, and donations.
